My traditional football finals dinner has just gon

My traditional football finals dinner has just gone in the oven - kleftiko, done to the brilliant @chefrickstein recipe which I have been using for years.

I have added extra garlic as I feel in need of a boost, and also a graffiti aubergine that needed eating. As well as feta at the end, I will also add some spinach, making this power-packed kleftiko!

The dish will be ready in time for the England Football Finals, and it will go down nicely with my New Zealand Pinot Noir, which is currently breathing.

The lamb comes from @palfreyandhall and the veggies from @giddensthompson with @freshherbsalt and @yarevalleyoils both making an appearance. See you in a few hours!

A summer barbecue doesn't have to be off just because it is raining!

I used my @ninjakitchenuk outdoor woodfire electric bbq to do spatchcock roast chicken and new potatoes. It's absolutely delicious and so simple!

For the chicken, I simply rubbed extra virgin olive oil 🫒 onto the skin, then scattered dried oregano, a very good grind of black pepper, and a sprinkle of sea salt. The chicken then rested while I cooked the potatoes.

Just add salad and dressing, and tuck in!

Crumpets toasted in the air fryer - by far the best way - then topped with leftover tomato sauce from last night's pasta and some Cheddar cheese. Bellissimo!

Ah, I do love a good Sunday brunch!

Pork and black pepper sausages with smoked back bacon from @palfreyandhall along with scrambled eggs from Hempnall via @giddensthompson as were the mushrooms and tomatoes. The toast is dad's homemade, with @letheringsett_mill flour.

It was perfect, and just what was needed after a non-stop couple of weeks.

I recently spent 3.5 weeks in the United States, and the start of April saw me at @omelarab celebrating their open house. I was tasked with putting the cheeseboards together - a good, strong, sharp cheddar, a melting good brie, and some salty Parmigiano Reggiano, plus an assortment of fruits, nuts, and crackers. The boards went down well, and there were just a few apricots left by the end of their presentation.

It was a beautiful day with beautiful Arabian horses, great friends, amazing wines, grown on the farm, and this lovely cheeseboard as well as salmon from the SB Smokehouse.

All in all, a fantastic day - and perfect inspiration for the glorious Bank Holiday weather!

Crackling set!

My favourite part of roast pork is setting the crackling. I turn the oven to high, rub the pork with a touch of @yarevalleyoils cold-pressed rapeseed oil and then a good sprinkle of @maldonsalt Then it is into the oven for half an hour, before covering and turning the temperature to 150 C fan. The pork then does its own thing for 2-3 hours, before I remove the foil and turn the temperature back up to 180 for 10 minutes for that extra crunch.

We have so much amazing pork available locally, and this beauty came from @palfreyandhall

Now time for a glass of 2023 @flintvineyard Charmat - their new white fizz - and to relax for a bit.

On a day full of April showers here in the UK, I can't help but think back to this delicious Mattei's Smash, which I enjoyed a couple of weeks ago while in Los Olivos and spending time with friends @matteistavernauberge

Not all burgers are equal, and this one was particularly good - juicy patties from grass-fed beef, melting cheese, a bun that melted rather than took over, and perfect pickles.

When only a burger will do, this was a great choice - and it would go down a treat today, as temperatures have plummeted to 4 degrees again, with high winds and torrential showers.

After an eye test at the ever-fabulous @dippleandconway we decided to stop @pennoyercentre on the way home. This oat milk mocha was amazing, piping hot and suitably indulgent. I also love the dog tablecloth, reflected in the glass mug!

The Pennoyer Centre is a great community treasure. As well as delicious food and drinks, they also offer a wide variety of events. It was featured on @griffrhysjones series, Restoration - which is surely due a return to the screens - and it is a must visit if you live locally.

I do find it difficult to post when I am on the ro

I do find it difficult to post when I am on the road. I am living in the moment and tend just to fall into bed at the end of the day, tired from the day's activities, and ready for sleep.

I came home early and totally surprised my mum in the process 🧡 And that gives me a weekend back to recover from jetlag and adjust to the eventual 8 hour time difference.

I've never wanted a flight to go so quickly! I flew @americanair for the first time - way better than the equivalent @british_airways offering - and they offered @haagendazs_us sundaes for dessert. How could I possibly resist!

I will do a full post soon with some of the delicious foodie delights I've enjoyed since mid-March, but for now, it's time to cuddle with @magicalmistermishkins and enjoy a stroll around the spring garden. Happy Sunday all!

What a great first night in California, starting with this delicious pizza from @toscana_pizzeria_tapas_enoteca - brisket corned beef and white cabbage. So fresh and delicious and running with rich green olive oil. That and a glass of local Sauvignon Blanc made for the beginning of a memorable evening!

In a New York minute...

I love it when synchronicity happens in life and, popping into @earshamstdeli today to get their glorious Friday tart, my attention was caught by their focaccia special of the day. It was a 'New York Deli Style' - pastrami, mustard mayo, Jarlsberg, pickles and rocket. Given that, on Wednesday, I fly to New York, I had to have it!

This delicious focaccia sandwich has definitely whetted my appetite for a New York Reuben. @katzsdeli is meant to have the best - but where do you recommend to get the ultimate Reuben-fix? Today's from Earsham Street definitely hit the spot, so the bar is already set high!
