We started at the brilliant @oldschoolcoffeeltd where I enjoyed a Black Forest mocha, Paula a cappuccino. I love the vibe here and the additional space they have.

There are so many fabulous independents in these two market towns, and we should support them all over the chains.

All in all, it was a great start to the week.

I am still channelling the Scandinavian vibe with my brunch today - @kavli_sverige soft cheese with lobster and crayfish mixed with hard-boiled egg, served atop a crisp, sourdough crumpet. Very delicious - and had I still been away, it would no doubt have been adorned with the caviar that is found everywhere in Sweden.

Nowadays, I toast my crumpets in the air fryer. They come out cooked evenly and perfectly crisp. I recommend trying it!

I wish you could smell this! The beginnings of a steak, ale and mushroom pie, with stewing steak from @theforequarter and @grainbrewery Best Bitter. The addition of fresh bay and rosemary from the garden makes this dish smell amazing - and the oven is now doing all the hard work while I relax in front of the fire.

Oh, hello! I've been itching to make this dish but was too busy last week to do so. As we know, everything happens for a reason - as you'll soon discover!

Beautiful porcini tagliatelle from @tuscanfarmshop with brown butter, roasted chestnuts, pistachio pecorino - also from the shop - with the last-minute addition of fresh black Italian truffle from @giddensthompson

This dish was so earthy, so delicious, and I am definitely in my happy foodie place! It has been a while since I cooked properly, and this ticked every box going. All it needed was some fresh herbs... 🌿 next time!

A fun morning/afternoon @snellingskitchens @geraldgiles.co.uk today for their coffee morning. Savoury muffins with feta, sun-dried tomato, and charred peppers, plus giant dark chocolate cookies, were the order of the day - enjoyed alongside fresh coffee from the impressive new @kitchenaid_uk coffee machine.

Thank you to all who came and enjoyed. It was great to see so many people buying local!

A beautiful shoulder of mutton seared and ready for a long slow roast. I've kept it simple - fresh bay and rosemary, garlic and red onion, and red wine.

I've kept the temperature low and will give it around four hours before starting the veg - including new season Brussels sprouts! Yes, I am excited that my favourite vegetable is back in town!

What a delicious meal we enjoyed last night for my dad's 80th. It's been a wonderful week of celebrations, topped off with my menu.

It was a great cook and fun to select some of dad's favourite dishes over the years. They were all delicious, but I loved the beetroot dish and the sublime salmon, cured in @tamnavulinwhisky

Today is definitely a day to chill with Mishkins and have a relaxed evening catching up with last night's Strictly.

I've not made soda bread for years - I'm not sure

I've not made soda bread for years - I'm not sure why. I'm a smidge more than a quarter Irish, and it is one of the quickest breads to make.

Monday was my dad's 80th birthday, so I am cooking a special tasting menu tonight. It's five courses, with wines, based on some of dad's favourite dishes that I've cooked over the years.

I decided to keep two of the dishes simple - and have some freshly made soda bread on the table for people to help themselves to.

It looks so good - and is made with @hodmedods whole wheat flour and @oldhallfarm raw Jersey milk.

I have had to fight the urge to break a bit off and try it - and now I'm alone in the kitchen, I just might!
