  • Drinks for the long weekend…

    7th May 2020The Delicate Diner

Talking to my friends during these interesting times we find ourselves in, there is a common theme of what is getting us through – and that is the moment when the sun is in the right place over the yard arm and we can crack open a bottle, sit down and relax, and try to pretend that we are not currently living in a sci-fi film! With the long weekend upon us (or just another day in lock down if you are cynical), and another at the end of the month, I thought I would ask some of my foodie…

  • The Butcher's House oxtail & ale stew

    23rd March 2020The Delicate Diner

Oxtail is an underrated cut of meat – and a far cry from the soups of our childhoods. One of the cheapest cuts, if not the cheapest, of beef, oxtail is full of flavour and benefits from slow cooking. This recipe easily feeds a family of four, with leftovers for another day. INGREDIENTS1 oxtail, jointedYare Valley rapeseed oil2 red onions, quartered3 or 4 bay leaves2 celery stalks, chopped2 large carrots, slicedWhite and pink peppercornsHalf a swede, dicedDried parsley & dried oregano1 beef stock pot1 bottle Broadside beerTomato pureeAround 5g porcini mushroomsCornflour Add a splash of Yare Valley rapeseed oil to…

  • Adnams Pink Gin!

    24th August 2018The Delicate Diner

What a terrific launch for Adnams Pink Gin! We went to a great event held in Adnams Harleston, and this display was somewhat depleted by the time the store closed at 7pm. I saw many people leaving with bottles of the new gin as well as several bottles of Adnams flagship gin, First Rate. The new Pink Gin is seriously good. Dangerously good, in fact! The raspberry is gentle and takes away any of the tart gin tang, leaving a very refreshing taste. All the Adnams stores are open all Saturday, and I recommend you go and buy a bottle ahead…

  • Proudly Norfolk – launch of The Norfolk Cook Book

    9th May 2017The Delicate Diner

Monday 8 May saw many of Norfolk’s top restaurateurs, producers, butchers, coffee shops, pubs and other foodie establishments gather together at The Forum Library in Norwich for the launch of The Norfolk Cook Book.  Printed and produced by Meze Publishing, who are producing a series of regional cookbooks, The Norfolk Cook Book launch truly celebrates the very best of our wonderful region. Those of us that live in – and love – Norfolk have been very vocal about our county for many years. Now, it seems that the rest of the UK is starting to notice the great produce that comes from our…

  • March – Morston Hall, Loddon Swan & the launch of Nelson’s Gold…

    2nd April 2017The Delicate Diner

Hello my wonderful Delicate Diners. I am sorry for my absence. I had a bad accident at the end of February and that, combined with a very intense deadline for my publication, The Arabian Breeders’ Magazine, resulted in blogging being the last thing on my mind. But there is so much to write about! March saw me enjoy an afternoon tea at The Assembly House, Norwich, all in aid of Marie Curie. Then there was dinner at Morston Hall, part of Galton Blackiston’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Wild Knight vodka launched their new delicious drink, and I enjoyed lunch with my…
