  • Upping the Steaks – Intwood Farm

    7th August 2020The Delicate Diner

You may not have heard of Intwood Farm before, but with the hot weather forecast for this weekend and next week making it perfect barbeque weather, now is the time to check out this family-run business. Located in Cringleford, just outside of Norwich, Intwood Farm opened its butchery in April this year. Owned by Nigel Darling, the farm is set in 450 acres, including arable land, and they specialise in native breeds. “We acquired the farm in 2010, with 30 cows and calves as our foundation stock,” says Nigel. “We now have around 300 cows, a number of rare breed…

The Delicate Diner goes to… The Boars

    18th July 2020The Delicate Diner

The Boars in Spooner Row has a rich history within Norfolk, especially since Chef Patron Simon Turner and his partner Jenny Hay took over 18 months ago. With the lockdown rules easing, Simon invited me along to check out their food and I took my parents as well so that we could enjoy the full Boars experience. And we were not disappointed. Simon Turner is perhaps best known in Norfolk for the Elm Hill Brasserie, a very popular eatery and where Simon honed his skills as a chef. Having spent time in France as a child, as well as living…

  • The Brasted’s Experience

    10th November 2019The Delicate Diner

I have seen, and got to know, the Brasted’s team over several years – namely at the Royal Norfolk Show, where they do an incredible job catering for the Vice Presidents and guests. We have also met at numerous foodie events across the county, with Managing Director Nick Mills becoming one of the more familiar faces. Nick is a true example of how to grow in a role, joining Brasted’s as a part-time waiter and then coming up through the ranks. Chef, Chris ‘Buzz’ Busby is also well known, and he is often seen doing his legendary cooking demos. Younger…

  • A Vegetarian Tasting Night at The Swan

    3rd January 2019The Delicate Diner

I have long been a fan of The Swan in Loddon. Their mushroom consommé was my dish of 2017, and so when they invited me along to their vegetarian tasting night, I jumped at the chance. Arriving early, we enjoyed drinks by the open fire before heading upstairs to their newly-owned private dining area. This new addition to The Swan will certainly be a great asset – it is calm, tranquil and beautiful, and offers the perfect place for people to get together and celebrate a private party or a special occasion. The Swan is well known for holding its…

  • Adnams Pink Gin!

    24th August 2018The Delicate Diner

What a terrific launch for Adnams Pink Gin! We went to a great event held in Adnams Harleston, and this display was somewhat depleted by the time the store closed at 7pm. I saw many people leaving with bottles of the new gin as well as several bottles of Adnams flagship gin, First Rate. The new Pink Gin is seriously good. Dangerously good, in fact! The raspberry is gentle and takes away any of the tart gin tang, leaving a very refreshing taste. All the Adnams stores are open all Saturday, and I recommend you go and buy a bottle ahead…

  • Celebrating my Norfolk Foodie ‘Eating Out Top Ten’ of 2017

    26th January 2018The Delicate Diner

I know that this particular blog – celebrating my Foodie Top Ten of 2017 – may seem a bit late. But with Dry January, Vegan January, Blue Monday, Have No Fun in January and all the other negative aspersions associated with this month, there didn’t seem much point in whetting your appetites for some of the most fantastic foodie offerings that there are in Norfolk. Yes, I do agree that we should all drink less and have more meat-free days but the total ‘new year, new me – in with the blender, out with the slow cooker’ – drives me…

  • A Luxurious Afternoon Tea with the Artisan Pastry Chef

    7th January 2018The Delicate Diner

The beginning of 2018 welcomed the Artisan Pastry Chef to the heart of Norwich with open arms. From Portugal, Joaquim Teles and his wife, Ana, have become familiar faces across Norfolk and Suffolk the past year. With approaching 30 years of experience behind him, Joaquim and Ana moved to the UK in 2015 and chose Norfolk as the best place to combine his brilliant patissier skills with the amazing produce that this region is so well known for. The result – the Artisan Pastry Chef, who has been seen at markets and pop ups across Norfolk and Suffolk ever since.…

  • The Swan – Loddon’s Best Kept Secret

    18th August 2017The Delicate Diner

It all began with a bowl of soup. A consommé, to be precise. And when I say, it all began, I don’t just mean that it was the start of the meal. More, it was the start of being impressed, at the fact a local ‘pub’ in south Norfolk could serve a consommé that truly was up there with the best of them. I was in love. The venue was The Swan at Loddon, as featured in my March blog, and I think that you can tell I was more than happy with my dining experience there for Mothering Sunday lunch. Come…

  • Yare Valley Oils & Norfolk’s Fields of Gold

    10th July 2017The Delicate Diner

In spring, you cannot have failed to notice that Norfolk’s fields were gold. Driving through the beautiful countryside found in this wonderful part of the world, at every turn, you can see field after field of golden flowers, gently swaying on the breeze. It is these flowers that produce one of our native oils – rapeseed oil. As someone who is a big fan of using local produce wherever possible, what can be better than rapeseed oil? Grown here in Norfolk, harvested and pressed here, it is straight from field to shelf with none of the miles. Compared to olive…
